Free iPhone battery replacement from Apple

Has anyone here qualified for this & actually gone ahead with it?

I'm eligible for this but getting an appointment is a nightmare.

My phone is in absolute mint condition. Since day 1 it's had tempered protectors front & rear & been in an Otterbox case all that time & not dropped once.

I suffer from the dreaded battery drop. My worst has been the battery dying from 52%.

What i don't want though is to send it in & when i get it back the phone has had the protectors removed & the screen is scratched (basically i receive it back in a worse physical condition than when i sent it in, oh & updated to the latest iOS too which i don't want either).

I know Apple should know their way around their own products & there SHOULDN'T be any concern for this next bit, but my brother took his phone to a back street phone repair store & they replaced his iPhone battery. When he got it back it was all rattly inside.
My sister also went to a similar store & when she got it back (the phone was old & the battery was obviously on its way out) everything seemed ok & the battery was working fine, but within a few weeks the battery was goosed.

So if you've gone through with this then i'm just wondering about your experience of it.

Do you have the 6S? How old is it? If the battery is failing, then just keep trying to get an appointment. However it's not a quick replacement as the batteries are glued in and the job takes about 35 minutes, plus you'll be in a queue of replacements. I expect when you do get an appointment, they'll tell you to come back later that day.

Which is your closest Apple store, have you tried any others? It's a busy time of year, so perhaps wait until the Christmas madness is over?

Don't worry about the condition of the phone, they will make a note before hand and before you leave you should definitely check it in front of them. If you're not happy, say so. They WILL update you to the latest iOS (this really isn't a bad thing) but your screen protector shouldn't prevent them opening the phone and should remain in place. Maybe highlight it also if they've removed it and ask that they replace it?

Do give it a good shake, if it's rattling, they haven't stuck the replacement battery down and left it loose inside. It won't cause any real problems, but you should demand that they secure the battery down as over time this could damage the connector (and is an annoyance when shaking the phone).

    Good luck!
  • Well, for anyone who may come across this thread - i got it done.

I've had roughly a fortnight off & since i couldn't get an appointment (literally none came up & Apple told me they release them at 12am, so i tried at 12am, 12:01am, 12:02am .............. none came up!) i decided to just head down there (Trafford Centre).

Thankfully it wasn't a weekend & it wasn't full of kids (i always get there for on the dot opening!) so i got through pretty quickly.

Ran through the issues, he took my phone, told me come back in 2 hours job done.

He said they may need to remove the protectors since it's a machine that does it, but they didn't have to in the end.
They also didn't update to the latest iOS :)

SO FAR no unexpected shut downs. Time will tell.

When i got the phone brand spanking new the battery was good. This battery isn't as good as the old one was brand new, it does run down quicker but so long as it's not too quick (i'll find out when i go back to work) then it's ok.

So far so good but it's still only been a week or so.

Your new battery will need at least 5-10 full recharge cycles to reach its full capacity. Be patient!
