    Update on the deposit etc

There was a lot of to-ing and fro-ing re the letting agent, the ex and my daughter. To be honest, the actual member of staff dealing with this issue came out with some really bizarre comments, and the cleaning firm they employed did some very peculiar things. My friend owns his own letting company and he really found their behaviour the strangest he's ever heard of, and he's been doing lettings for years!

Anyway, the manager of the letting office got involved in the end and the result was that my daughter got her deposit back in full. There was no check out fee, no cleaning fee, no damages charged (as in the unrepaired holes in the wall that the ex hadn't had chance to fix) etc, no deductions AT ALL. The only thing the letting agent asked was that they didn't discuss anything with anyone, although they were not asked to sign anything to this effect. Bit strange, I thought? A good result all round in the end.

Nope, his missing bank card and ID never did turn up so he went to the police. The letting agency said they were going to go to the police themselves and report me and my daughter for stealing these items (don't know when I was supposed to have done that, but hey ho!) They never did.

I personally think that either there has been a massive muck up and perhaps the deposit wasn't registered properly OR they have got problems at the letting agency (my friend had heard rumours to that effect) and they just wanted it sorted quietly. In the tenancy agreement it says there's an admin fee for the final inventory and they even waived that?
