I'm very much a static user where laptops are concerned, and have always been content to use my Dell model placed on my knee , and wired into my router by means of the lans cable/ethernet connection.
I've been looking at Dell's website and it appears virtually all their laptops now require Wi-Fi connection to the net.
Which do you prefer?
Thank you.

Prefer wifi for the ease of portability0

They certainly don't require it. 95% of laptops still have an ethernet port unless you gop to the silly thin and small ones with no ports. Even then you can use a usb adaptor.
Why would anyonbe prefer one or the other for internet use? As long as the signal is strong enough wifi is enough, unless you get fttp I guess.
FWIW I use wifi on my laptops and phones and tablets and have a router for my dekstops for speedy file transfer which is homeplugged to the router (they get a really bad wifi signal which i think is because the boiler is in direct line to the router).0 -
Desktop and NAS are Ethernet-connected via a Gigabit network switch, making for fast file transfers and fast printing as the networked printer is also connected to the NAS. The desktop is 2 rooms and 3 walls away from the router and the Ethernet cable is a 30 Metre CAT6 connection across the loft.
Wife's laptop is closer to the router and uses WiFi, as do all the devices used by visiting family members. (our tiny bungalow is often crowded with kids and grandkids using tablets, phones and who knows what devices.) My phone works OK in the desktop room via WiFi, but the desktop never had a good signal.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
