Laptop broken just out of warranty - anything I can do?

Bought one of those fancy 2-in-1 laptops just over a year ago. It's broken, it works as a tablet but won't click over into laptop mode.
The warranty is, surprise surprise, 12 months. Is there anything I can do here or am I stuffed for a costly repair? It was from Curry's if that makes any difference.

In practice probably not. The onus would be on you proving on the balance of probability that the laptop was inherently faulty i.e. that the fault existed when you bought the laptop but only manifested itself later. Lack of durability can be an inherent problem but, I suspect, it would be difficult proving this with a laptop i.e. it how can you prove you didn't roughly handle it etc.
You could still speak to Curry's and see if they can offer any help.
[Also the fault sounds quite minor, some connection or something not working, but I am just guessing.]0
