computer shutdown

Mid use, my computer just turned off. There had been a fan that was running very fast for a while. When I pressed the power button nothing happened. First thought is the psu has gone but there was no smell which I could detect. Any thoughts please?

    It`s a custom build pc. Win 10. 8 m of ram, athlon 8 core.
  • Hi,

my quick diagnosis, is that it was caused by overheating, allow it to cool down and try again.

Though you'll need to sort the fault, as it will happen again.

Clogged up vents or fan needing cleaned.

    I'm betting that's a symptom, not the problem ;)

Fuses only blow for a good reason.

Do you know which fan you heard spinning constantly?

If it was the PSU fan that might mean it's on the way out (Overheating and the Safety fuse pops)

CPU fan : heat-sink needs a good clean out as well as thermal paste checked/re-applied.

Other fan : a good clean out of the case and making sure the fans are blowing / sucking in the correct direction... :)
