Hi all,
I'm off on holiday next weekend with my wife and 18 month old daughter to Appin in Argyll for a week. We're staying in a gorgeous cottage, and are really looking forward to some serious relaxation
However, where could we visit whilst up there? Keen on doing anything that doesn't involve a boat of any sort, or steep hill walks. We have a buggy for our daughter and also a child carrier, so gentle walks and fantastic scenery would be great. We love wildlife, so we'd like to see a lot of that too.
I've printed out details of the following:
Open to all your opinions - thanks in advance!

- Oban Rare Breeds Farm Park
- Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary
- Oban Chocolate Company
Open to all your opinions - thanks in advance!

You're staying near one of the main gateways to the isles and you don't want to use a boat to visit these lovely isles?!:D
OK. South near Glasgow is Loch Lomond. There's a sea life place here at Balloch and Lomond Shores for a few shops.
There's Inverary which is very pretty and the Jail (can't remember if this was worth it) and the castle which we enjoyed.
There's Oban and getting ferries to various islands.
Eilean Donan castle near Skye and the Loch Ness Experience. Glencoe?
Can't help you with walks because The Viking doesn't do walking! The man without a signature.0 -
Fort William is not as nice as Oban IMO. Oban has a lovely beach (Ganavan Sands) nice shops and losts of ferry routes to the islands. (oops no boats)The rare breeds park is up for sale and may not be open. With an 18 month old I'd recommend a walk in Sutherlands Grove 6 miles south of Appin, Dunstaffnage Castle in Dunbeg and further south is Kilmartin Glen which is the most calming relaxing place in the world. To eat in Oban I'd recommend the Waterfront Bar on the south pier and Piazza on the north pier followed by a walk up to McCaigs tower above the town for a fabulous view. PM me if you want any more info on some of the hidden gems.0

Bridge over the Atlantic to Seil Island is one of my favourites. Nice pub with good food and tables outside (If nicde...some hope
). There is also a nice 15 minute walk over the hill to the anchorage which will give you great views over to Mull (not strenuous either).
A must visit is the fresh fish sandwich shop on Oban Pier, the best prawn sarnie you'll ever have. Buy a nice bottle of white and sit on the pier and enjoy.
For further travel you have Inverary Jail (in the south good for a rainy day)
A day trip to Inverewe Gardens (possibly not best time of year and quite a trek)
A run to Skye?
I really enjoy the Sea Life Sanctuary and take the kids there quite frequently.
Have a look at the NTS web site HERE0 -
Thanks so much for all your replies - they are extremely helpful.
We're leaving in about an hour, am really looking forward to getting there!!!
Will let you know how we get on
