unusual usage switching advice please

My Dad`s current energy deal runs out at the end of January. He has just moved into a care home so his energy usage is going to be minimal as the house is unoccupied and we intend to sell as soon as poss. How can I look for a new supplier bearing in mind that his annual usage on his latest bills will have no resemblance to the usage until the house is sold? I need to keep the supply going as we will be visiting regularly to clear the contents

Any advice would be appreciated - including any pitfalls I should avoid!

(Apologies if any of this makes no sense - I`ve very little experience of switching!)

    Switch to Ebico.

No daily standing charge, pay by any method at the same prices - so chose quarterly payment and predicted usage won't be a factor.

Gas and electricity unit prices are high, but won't matter with low usage.

Use a comparison site to find the best deal for you.
Estimate as best you can the anticipated annual usage, and keep an eye on it to ensure your estimate was right; update as and when you have better info.

When I last looked, there were at least 4 different electricity suppliers that offered zero standing charge tariffs, and 2 of them were cheaper than Ebico.

You really don't need to use much gas to beat Ebico either, even though the cheaper supplier will charge a daily standing cahrge.

Whatever will be the cheapest, the comparison site is your friend :)

For the amount you will save in the few months it takes you to clear and sell, the amount you will save is so little as to be not worth bothering about. Even if you have Power of Attorney for your Dad you will probably find switching difficult, because the utility companies always want to deal with the account holder. I had to all this for my Dad a year or so ago. I spent a long time pretending to be him on the phone with utility companies.

    Thankyou jbuch.......
I must admit I was worried about how easy it would be to switch on Dad`s behalf. I`ve had problems with EDF (his current supplier) in the past because they were unwilling to talk to me even with Dad sitting next to me. I do have his power of attorney but don`t want to be sending off documents to prove it.

I`ll mull it over a bit longer and also take a proper look at the price comparison sites

Just do it on-line and you don't have to talk to anyone, you only have contact with the 'gaining' company.
