Any advice -
House deeds were held by solicitor who went bust.
Storage company contacted me saying they now have deeds in storage and want paying to release them to me.
is this legal? can i just demand them if i offer to cover postage?
i realise that most is now electronic, but they are of historical value rather than anything else.
Cheers

They are not a charity, and it costs them more than a price of a stamp to retrieve and send them to you, so yes they are entitle to charge you for this service. How much are they asking for?
Unless you purchased your house prior to 1970 then your house should be registered at the land registry, and you don't actually need the old paper copies (I would check with the LR that your property is registered, because if not you will need those paper copies)0 -
Most companies who store legal documents will have an ongoing storage fee, and also a fee payable each time they need to retrieve documents out of their warehouse.
I don't think it would be reasonable for them to ask you to pay for any historic storage costs. But I think it is reasonable for them to charge their usual document retrieval fee.0 -
The firm that was appointed by the SRA should be sorting this out.
