putting furniture in storage while decorating/carpet is fitted

We have a bad moth infestation in our (fitted) front room carpet which in any case is old and needs replacing. We plan to replace it with wooden flooring and rugs. We have had the local carpet and flooring firm round to measure up.
The problem is we have some large heavy furniture in there which will have to be moved out first and we thought while that was done we would take the opportunity to get the room decorated . It is too heavy for us to move and will need to go into temporary storage.
Anyone else done this? Did you use a local removal firm? Did they offer a temporary storage facility for this sort of thing or did you use a local diiy storage unit?

Having been through a few self storage places in recent years, I'd suggest you might be better off hiring a van and leaving it on your drive. It should only be 2 days....
Self storage is a pain in the butt to find one, look at accessibility.... provide the ID, pay for it ...
Might just be cheaper/easier to have a van parked on your driveway for 1-2 days.
Decorating doesn't take THAT long that you couldn't achieve this.
Having people round to remove furniture, into a van, that's then driven away, then unloaded into self-storage .... and the reverse some days later... seems overkill for what you're trying to achieve.
Given good weather, if you did it in the summer, you could even just put up a good enclosed marquee/gazebo in the garden and stick it out there.0 -
Thing is I don't have a drive or side access except narrow footpath and a tiny garden. I live in a Victorian house (no garages no drives) in an urban city street with controlled parking. And some of the furniture is quite large, too large for me and OH who is not allowed to do heavy lifting for medical reasons, to shift ourselves. So options are local self store P!us couple of heavies with a van, removal firm to self store or removal firm to own temporary storage. Was wondering how anyone else solved the problem.0

Do you have a spare room where you could store furniture?
If not, I would get quotes from local removal companies. You could post your requirements on https://www.anyvan.com"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

all that is going to cost more than the new flooring and rugs.0 -
Ask the floor fitters and decorators if they can work around your furniture. If there are only a few large items moving them around the room to accommodate the work is not ideal but possible.
I recently fitted extra underlay in my living room with the settee, hi fi sideboard unit and large desk still in it.0 -
yes I know that but the moth infestation is bad (seems very bad locally this year after several warm winters) and we really need to redecorate. There are two substantial sofas two large bookcases and other stuff which all arrived incrementally over the last ten years. too much to move elsewhere in house. front room really needs redecorating too. so think will just have to bite bullet over costs. have some money set aside for this as a project.0

how do you know the moths aren't living in the sofas?
Im glad my carpets are cheap plastic rubbish didn't know moth infestation in carpets existed, Im guessing you have wool based carpets.0 -

Would be as good a reason to hire a self store unit, wrap the furniture in plastic and fumigate them. The week or two that the sofas will be wrapped up should kill off any bugs. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
Carpet fitters are quite used to working around furniture, I think they'd be surprised to encounter an empty room. All you need do is remove all the little bits of carp that we accumulate* (or is it just me?), just leaving the main items and cover them over when you decorate, then call in the carpet fitters. If you're in any doubt, ask the guy when he give you a quote what you need to remove. Mine just said, 'nothing, they'll deal with it'.
* Esp the contents of any sideboard, cupboard etc0
