on this forum 99% will tell you must inform your insurance every time a bird poops on your cars paint, but in the real world 100% of them would just keep schtum

That is because "advising" someone to breach the terms of their insurance, and then fraudulently claim not to have had any accidents at renewal, so as to obtain a cheaper quote, is quite probably against the Law ;)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I've had a heck of a lot more damage done to two different cars on two separate occasions. Both times I came to an agreement with the other party, (both at fault) took their insurance details and both went to a local repairer. They both paid the repairer cash up front and the repirer told them that my car would be repaired first.

In one case, a lady drove into my car from a side street in the rain: my lights were on and I still don't know why she drove out, I was doing less than the 30 limit as the rain was very heavy. The street was her cul de sac and I had to take her to her house, she was shaking and scared. I sat her down in her own kitchen and my wife made her a cuppa. Then I drove both cars into her drive and she called her partner, after which we all drove up to the repairer's workshop.

The other case was 3 years later - another woman, reversing out of our surgery down a tight road in a huge 4 WDrive, 4 kids in the back, music so loud she could not even hear my horn sounding. I was driving in from a blind corner, cars behind me and others trying to come out. I actually knew the woman's husband. As before: afterwards we all went up to the reapirer. My damage was worse than hers and neither of us wanted to involve Insurance. Her husband paid for the damage. He then sold the 4WD and bought her a Mondeo!

If I had been in any doubt about either outcome, I would have informed my insurer. In both incidents, I took photos of the scenes and the damage.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
  • Legal words "Incident"
When used in context of indemnity claim.
A incident is a ledger entry that the indemnity has been claimed upon or could be by a third party.

Insurance is written in legalese not English.
I do Contracts, all day every day.
  • I wouldn't bother them about an insy dent

So if my car is parked on my own land and catches fire due to an electrical fault, then as far as the insurance company are concerned I don't have to report it as there is no possibility of a claim by a third party?
