So I treated myself to a posh 4K tv. And dropped it. Screen smashed. Wish I could blame someone else but it's entirely down to my own stupidity. Insurance has a substantial excess. CC doesn't have accidental damage cover.

Is this likely to be repairable or is it yet another new tv?

    Samsung 43ku6000

It's generating vertical lines but I can see that there is still a picture behind the lines.

Not with a smashed screen I very much doubt. How "substantial" is the excess, greater than forking out for a new TV?

The excess would still mean I had something towards a new one. And no, can't think of any way of claiming it was down to someone else. It's less than 3 weeks old and I didn't buy extra cover. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

And in case it makes a difference the full model code is ue43ku6000kxxu

Your excess is likely to be less than what a new panel repair or a replacement TV would be. In fact I doubt they'd repair it anyway as it would be uneconomical to do so. What did the TV cost £500-£600?

If you have accidental cover on your insurance then use it, that's after all what you pay for.
  • The LCD panel is by far the single most expensive part of an LED / LCD TV. Most repair workshops would advise against replacing the panel (it can be done though) as the cost will either equal or in some cases exceed the cost of simply going down to Currys or wherever and buying a replacement TV which of course will come with a new 12 month warranty. Either claim on your insurance or take it on the chin - there is no other option :)

Insurance is your best option but you have other possibilities.

Buy anther identical TV then you have all the repair boards for it.
But Samsungs are pretty reliable so you could then wait until a replacement panel appears on an auction site and do the repair then sell it.

Or just sell the boards to recoupe some of your loss.
