Insurance company asking me to get police report

My husband and I were involved in an accident over 2 months ago. We were both injured and not able to get details of other driver or his insurance. We were ambulanced to hospital and the police took statements etc. Our car was a right off and our insurance company gave us a cheque for value of our car.
We were then handed over to a personal injury company (apparently part of our insurance policy covered this). We have today received a letter from them asking if we have been successful in getting details of the other driver from the police yet! I have no idea how to go about this and would be grateful for advice.

You can ask the police for his details though they often use data protection as a reason not to give them.

See if you can get to speak to the officer who dealt with this.

I doubt that you will have any difficulty getting the details from the police, as the exchange of names and addresses after an injury accident is a legal requirement. Due to your own injuries you were unable to do this at the time. You are entitled to the details now.

Be disappointing if they tried this, after I left the scene of my bike accident in an ambulance a kind policeman took my bike home and left details with the guy's name, car reg and insurance details

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

The reason your insurers are asking for this is because if the accident wasn't your fault, then the insurers can recover their costs, meaning it won't impact your NCD eventually.

Also if you need to claim for injury, you'll need his details (at the very least his reg) - they're going to need to know who they need to claim against.
