Vermin cover on house insurance

Hi,
Having recently had a neighbour who has had an issue with vermin, we have started looking through our insurance documents.
It seems that if they cause any damage the insurance does not cover this.
My worry is that if they were to enter my house and chew through something that then causes the house to burn down or something, will the insurance pay out?
I have just phoned E-sure who I'm with and the lady on the phone just said that damage caused by them wasn't covered.
I'm very concerned that I may not be covered when I need it most.
Is there anyone that can shed any light on this?

The vermin exclusion is common in the industry. You'll find most if not all insurers have this exclusion.
However, what the lady at esure told you isn't correct.
The fire peril generally has no exclusions, so you'd be covered.0 -
If for example, a rat chewed through a wire which caused a fire, the insurers should cover the fire damage but not the wire itself.0

Oh ok, so I won't be left without a roof over our head if the worst were to happen.
I understand it is very slim, but you do hear horror stories0
