Recommendations needed please

I’m going to have to change my car. Don’t want HP or lease or anything. Have only up to about £2000 to spend. Money is tight so anyone know which 5 door cars from around 2006 – 2010 have lowest VED and ins group. Can reluctantly live with a small engine
Thanks

You're just going to be looking for a well cared for example of something, at that price.

I'd be looking for a Fiesta/Focus, depending on what size car you want. Maybe a Skoda Fabia as an alternative to the Fiesta

At that end of the market, buy on condition, not on some theoretical tick-list.

Don't get hung up on MPG and VED - savings there are more than wiped out at the first serious problem.

If you're a high-risk-high-premium driver, then you may well find that insurance costs are based more on the demographic of the typical driver than on the insurance group. Group takes only repair costs into account, not the likelihood of a claim.
  • Also thinking along the lines of Fiesta or Focus at that price.

Either the 1.25 (zetec) or 1.4 Fiesta, I think there is only about 5 horsepower difference. Focus would be a 1.6 I think.

Key thing on a car that age, imo, is to look for the number of owners generally when a car is kept by somebody they would be more inclined to have it looked after. Also take a good look through the MOT advisory list, see if anything that needed doing was done year on year. I think you can find this info online.
