One of my cars doesn't have seat belts. Some people find it quite unnerving.

I remember my parents Herald had front belts as standard and I fitted Kangol belts in the back for them. Fine with just front passengers but with someone in the back there was a terrible grinding noise as the fixing bolts rubbed the prop shaft, quick shortening job with w hacksaw cured it!
An early car I had was a Matra Simca with three seats abreast and engine in the back but there were two full harness seat belts fitted for two people and nothing for the poor sob who sat in the middle!

My first car, a 1964 Austin 1100. I think the belts may have been retro-fitted.

My second car a Morris Minor 1000 Traveller (1st reg 31 Dec 1964) didn't have belts as 1 day before seat belt law effective date. However I had them fitted, then when I sold the car for scrap, removed the belts and sold them to a friend who fitted them in his mum's 1960 Mini.

It's a shame rear seat belt wearing wasn't made compulsory sooner IMHO.

Never knew my Uncle; he was driving home in East Ridings and came off the road (can't remember the why) and a friend of his sat behind him went into the back of my Uncle, killing him...
