  • I paid for my car on debit card (quite a bit more than £7k) and did not get charged a single penny.

I'd get them to waive the fees if I were you..

Pull the deal unless they waive the fee...when they agree....pay in cash.

EH won't handle more than £5k in cash. They refused to accept 12k in cash from a relative recently as it created additional checks and paperwork due to money laundering regulations

And additional costs as banks now charge businesses for lodging cash.

Theres really little reason to be carry large wads of cash around for purchases

Even on a small scale, the last car i bought was £6750. We went to the guys house, and i moved the money from my bank account via my mobile and he checked his bank account via his mobile to see it arrive in.

Pay it all on your credit card, and pay the cc bill same day.

That's what I did. It means any comeback and CC company take up your claim.
Why would you want to do that? Surely you're best off only paying when required to do so to maximise the interest free period. £10k at 4% would be over £30 for the month. Enough for at least half a tank of fuel in most cars.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
