Question.
Have you got house insurance with legal cover.
If yes use that.
If no, you can get all the advise you want at The Bridge Inn most evenings!0 -

No - only recently got this insurance details, but, yes, I will write to them and see what they say. thanks0 -
Yes you could (should!) pursue the other side for all your uninsured losses including excess and loss of earnings.
The thing to also consider is that establishing liability could take months rather than weeks, so are you happy to wait?
Compare the benefit of claiming now and getting this fixed properly, or if happy, to pay yourself for repairs now, then pursue the third party for recompense later rather than wait along time.
(If you were to go to a MCOL then expect that to take in the region of 4/6 months to reach a hearing after the initial claim is issued if they defend all or part of the claim)
I am coming around to this way of thinking. It's frustrating, but at least stuff will start getting done and I get on with stuff. It's a pain chasing Wickes + their agent down. Not happy about risk to premiums, but maybe I could try claiming it back via courts. Thanks0 -
Thank the heavens you had CCTV, Sue their pants"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Re the discussions about Wickes, I have emailed them twice over last week on the grounds that my order (contract) was with them and that their agent damaged my property. I agree that they weren't driving the truck, but it is their representative. So far, they have not replied to my emails other than to acknowledge receipt.
I did take to twitter today (title: Hey @Wickes. You drove a truck into my house. Int+ext damage. I've contacted you twice about it. Whats happening?) and posted a video and photos.
Initially they said that an 'installation team' was supposed to be coming round (?), to which I asked if they were planning on installing a new external wall to my house. Anyway, after a bit of reputational management, they have fobbed me off (publicly) and told me to contact delivery company.
I've asked for a written reply to my email, and for this to be escalated, but not got a reply. I think they've gone to watch strictly
I've found the managing directors postal/email address. I might send something there, if no reply to original mails.0 -

1. no to legal cover. Only bought a house 6 months ago and didn't really see the point of it. I think I'll take it up in future
2. haha - the pub advice seems to be 50:50 mix of chase other party vs your own insurance. Regardless, they all advise clawing back every penny through the courts if needed.0 -
Id start composing a letter now so its ready to send if no response from Wickes.
Keep it short as possible.0 -

Totally - it actually came with the house when I bought it, and I was a little reticent as I hate the big brother culture, but our street has had issues with robberies in the past so the neighbours (and prev owner) shared the expense and bought 4 cameras for the street. An absolute blessing in retrospect.
Sue their pants - agreed!0 -
