It's always best to have at least one other account with another bank so you always have access to money if something happens.

It sounds like you and your husband are too loyal to Halifax, you shouldn't just have all your financial products with one provider you should shop around and choose the best one.

I know in the past from threads created by EasyCash customers that they couldn't apply for a Halifax credit card-is it at all possible this is what's causing the issue for OP too?

Seeing as Halifax/Lloyds Bank are part of the same group you could try:

    https://secure.form.lloydsbank.com/application/pca_eligibility_check.asp

It's a soft search tool to see which current accounts you might qualify for (subject to further checks)-may/may not be worth a shot?

Halifax offer the same but if you're an existing customer it asks you to log in to 'upgrade'.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.
  • Just thought I'd thank you all for the advice, and let you know that after some shopping around I've opened a Nationwide account. I was too annoyed with Halifax to bother asking them to reconsider, and the good thing about the new account is that I can make £125 in interest over the year by moving some of my savings into it, hooray!

If you have a couple of direct debits on the Easycash account you could (almost) double that up to £222.25 by switching into Nationwide via their RAF promotion if you have a friend or family member with a Nationwide account.

If you don't have a couple of direct debits, get some! :)

I don't think I can because the Easycash account doesn't count as a current account, it's just a basic account.

A basic account is just a current account with limited facilities.

I'm surprised Halifax won't change you to their basic account or full account. They've recently got into trouble by leaving people in the Easycash.

Good stuff and don't forget the up to £500 monthly saver at 5% and also future recommending a friend for a £100 quid each. I have done this about five times!
