O/S Daily Saturday 17 December 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, not raining, but still damp and dirty underfoot, and this morning we have fog too! Air feels cooler too.
DH and myself are both enjoying first cuppas of the day - we're both working this morning, him on a much earlier start than me, but I woke then couldn't get back so sleep, so got up.
Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips and beans/veg for the menfolk, I had ham and mushroom omlette and salad, the ham was just a little bit left in an opened packet that needed using up, so it didn't get thrown away. Dinner tonight is going to be veg rice, bbq spare ribs, pulled pork, mushroom chow mein, and some tempura prawns - something a bit different.
Yesterday I was super productive - I just didn't seem to stop all day - first thing did food shopping, visiting 2 SMs, spent more than I'd hoped, but just hadn't got all the food/drink that I have in over Xmas - it was all on the list but just hadn't bought it, and I had the realisation that if I leave it until the end of the week it's going to be manic - and I may run out of time, so bit the bullet and got what was needed. I also got washing, drying and ironing done, visited 2 x cemeteries to lay the xmas wreaths, got the marzipan on the xmas cake, and bought last couple of gifts for the menfolk.
The only bits that I need now are the fresh items, I'm thinking I'll get those Thurs/Fri morning, as I collect my meat hamper on xmas eve at 7am. We're going to my parents for a get together and some food on xmas eve, so bro asked if I'd organise desserts - I've decided on a cheesecake and an apple tart. Did think about individual pavlovas, but, of course, they're full of sugar, and I know mum won't be able to resist so thought although not great, a cheesecake or apple tart would be better. Both can be made in advance, apple tart can just be heated up before serving.
After we've finished work today, we'll get a quick lunch. change and then go off to visit DH's grandad and take his gift. Hopefully once that's done, we'll be able to have some chill time later.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Nmlc, thanks for the thread, hugs to all those who are sad, worried or poorly,
Tru thanks for all the songs and carols.
I have 2 DGD's here, 2yo and 8yo, they are both asleep in bed as is my L&M, he has to work this morning.
I've broken up for the holidays so I need to throw myself in to housework and gift wrapping after the DGD's have gone home. My L&M want's to view another property but I've no idea why, it's not what we want or where we want, I'll try to stall him until after Christmas as I have loads to do without wandering round somewhere & something we don't want.
I got a brilliant Secret Santa gift yesterday, a mug that has 'Don't annoy the writer, she may put you in a book and kill you' written on it.
I'm going to write a list of jobs I need to do, write the last 4 cards, check we have batteries for the drones we have bought two of our DGS's and wait for everyone to wake up.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC - just reading your posts wears me out, you are always busy busy! After a decent sleep the night before I was back to a rubbish night last night and up at silly o'clock drinking coffee and reading my book.
Mr TA was tired all day yesterday and spent most of the day dozing on the sofa. I suppose events caught up with him. I had a nana nap myself in the afternoon and felt better for it.
I must get myself in gear today and catch up on jobs although I did whizz round with the duster and vac yesterday. First job will be to strip all the bedding off when Mr TA vacates it and get that in the wm. There's a pile of ironing mounting up and I need to make a quick trip to Aldi as dairy/veg/bread supplies are dwindling. Thank goodness for a well stocked freezer and store cupboard as that's what we've lived from this week!
Looking forward to the Strictly final tonight and might treat us to some nice choccies/sweeties to munch on watching it! The wine will be chilling in readiness too.
Have a good day all and (((HUGS))) to all in need/want. Hope the poorlies with the lurgy soon feel better too. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone.
I'm still under the duvet and rather reluctant to get up.
Today will spent in the small barn again, this time moving things around to make space for the new addition. And the floor needs a good sweep, it's got loads of bits from the logs and husks from sunflower seeds which the mice have eaten. There's only one more thing to move out, an old rug which is fairly big.
After that I don't know. Won't be visiting any shops.
Hugs to those who want or need one.
Happy Saturday.0 -

Hester Enjoy your break x
Scampi was great at the rescue centre, a bit nervous but no tantrums. As we left, one of the dogs was coming back from a walk, the walker told us she was nervous so we stayed on one side of the narrow car park and they stayed on the other. But the dogs wanted to meet so they did, we all seemed surprised (I definitely was!) that there was no bad reaction from either of them. We went to Morrisons, I went into the shop while mr tru took Scampi to the park. I was going to ring him when I'd finished but he was already back in the car – Scampi had dived into the bushes and came out with a cut paw. It wouldn't stop bleeding so mr tru took him to the vet next to the car park, it's not our vet practice so there was a bit of worry about how he'd react but the vet was fab with him and he calmly let her do what she had to do - he had antibiotics, a good clean up and he's now sporting a thick pink bandageHe's a bit miffed that he's not allowed to play in the garden or go for a walk and is very annoyed that he has to stay near the back door on a lead to have a wee, lol.
I'll put some washing on then whizz round with the mop and the hoover this morning. I now have proper blu-tack so can put up the last couple of decorations, and that's it for the day. I'm going to google for more brain games for dogs, Scampi with no exercise for the next two days is going to get bored and whiny very quickly so I'm going to have to work his brain to keep him busy

Morning All
I woke up at about 4.30, got up at 5.15, stripped the bed, that has been washed and is on the airer. Ironed the bedding to go on (yes, I managed to find the iron), completely gutted my bedroom and re-made the bed. The shower has been given a good scrub, I'll do the rest of the bathroom later.
Last night I moved some of the shelf units back into the cupboard under the stairs, they were filthy as they have been in the conservatory where the builders have been cutting wood. Anyway, all clean and one even has some of the big cast iron pots on. Hoping the DW is connected today so I can clean all the cupboards and get stuff unpacked.
Builders back today, they are painting the laundry and finishing door trims, etc. If I'm really lucky I will have a TV on the wall and they will unearth the TD.
Hope you all have a good weekend, take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone,
Thick fog here today, really quite atmospheric.
I didn't say yesterday as was reluctant to jinx it but DM went into hospital to see if it was possible to have a stent fitted to try and open the tubes somewhat and aid swallowing etc. Good news, it was possible and they did is straight away :j Obviously it was a very tiring ordeal for her and her throat is sore but we all hope that at least that part of her situation improves and she can eat some soft foods instead of liquid only diet. She is one tough cookie for sure!
Today will be complete rest for her, will take the opportunity to wrap all my presents and generally catch up, feel like we have all been holding our breath for the last week since the possibility was raised but it's all systems go now for a family xmas. First and foremost for me is Yule next wednesday.
Get well wishes to all poorlies and gentle blessings to all with a heavy heart x
Have a good day everyone x0 -
Morning (((((((((hugs))))))))))) if you need one.
Thank you to those of you who mentioned the anniversary. DS's crazy daughter tells me she is going to scatter his ashes over the M! from a bridge. I hope its windy and there are no cops about!! Its slightly better than scattering them from a lorry driving down the M1!! which was her original idea.
Its a fine morning so the washer is on, I have no idea where wll the laundry comes from, the basket was full again. Its bed day on Monday so I needed to get the other washing cleared up, can no longer do big wash days like I used to. The new medication is slowing me down even more.
I replaced my lost phone, it came yesterday, tried to set it up, keeps telling me there is no sim, although its in the wretched thing.....grrrrrr I will be ringing the help line today.
OH is getting very forgetful, he forgot to put the water and coffee in the caffee maker last night, I came in and switched it on, it was only when I went to pour coffee I realised there was no coffee in the jug.
I need to steam clean the kitchen floor and also spot treat the marks on the sitting room carpet.
Did not light the fire yesterday, it was warm enough in the house until the heating came back on at 4.30 pm.
I did managed to get some of the decks out last night, the models we were given in the USA are on the front window cill with the lights in them, tinsel round the two dressers, the angels on the window again, and the santa and elf models on the dresser in the hall. Decided not to put the small tree up this year, no where really to put it.
Right, time to get on with the jobs, do not want them to last all day!!0 -
Morning all, I got up at 3, unable to sleep longer and all my own fault - I got tired and went to bed early.
LaineyT good news, I hope this will help your mum a lot
I have no proper plans today, OH us shopping, I do need to mop the kitchen and bathroom floors.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all,
Tru :j Love Love Love that songthank you twinney !
Look to be a nice day here dd has a load of washing in the wm which we can hang out later, there is at least another load to go in.
OH is going shopping today, rather him than me !! he only has a few presents to get so not too bad.
DD and I will nip to a sm and get the few bits we need for the week, it wont be much just a top up shop really.
When we get back I am going to sit and wrap the final few presents and we can get them under the tree which we put up yesterday, next week we only have the house to clean which we can do bit by bit.
Right better get on, have good days all xx0
