And as advised, if you failed to pay the DD then all you can do is appeal, and if that fails you have to pay it.
The fine was £100 the items were £33. I am going to check his bank account to see if the DD had come out each month. The letter said it had lapsed between 9th - 16th Sept. Very harsh to send a £100 fine when he has been paying loyally for 4 years and if he has missed a payment it is a genuine oversight0 -
They've looked and feel he was not entitled to free prescriptions at the time, and have fined according to the law.
By all means check your records to see if there was a lapse in payment.
It is personal responsibility to check entitlement, but if there was a lapse which could be proved their mistake, thus some grounds for appealing the fine.0 -
As a previous PPC holder, you tell the pharmacy you have a valid card but it's not arrived/ left at home etc.
They then mark it is "proof not seen" and it's checked the other end. Where it's discovered you did/do indeed have a valid card.
No need to pay and then claim a refund.
I do the above now if i've left my benefit letter at home and I never have any problems.
The chemist won't do this. It also states on the renewal letter that you have to pay and claim back till you get your new card0 -
Well I checked OH's bank account and he pays £10.40 DD each month and he hasn't missed any payments. His PPC runs from Aug'16 - Aug'17. So I have no idea why they are saying he didn't have a valid PPC in September because he did.0

High street chemists don't need to see the certificate every visit but hospital chemists do, otherwise you need to pay and then get a refund for leaving it at home.0

All sorted now thankfully. I rang and spoke to them and told them he had a valid PPC and that the DD's had been coming out of his account with no breaks. The adviser looked into it and for some reason they had the wrong date of birth for him (the year was out by two years) she said it was a typing error and she would correct it and cancel the fine. Phew ! I didn't think we had done anything wrong.0
