Yorkshire Bank problem

I have applied for PPI, with Lloys and Bradford and bingley, with no problems.
I tried with Yorkshire Bank, only to be told, they can only checkback for seven years. I now hear an advert on the radio , saying that a reclaiming company , can check with Yorkshire bank , back to 1989.
Who is correct?

Do you have all paperwork for this loan?, if you do, put a claim in to the bank.
With no paperwork and given the year, was it 89?,the bank won't have any info.

Claims co will tell you anything to reel you in.

Your information regarding insurances is not in the public domain. So, nobody can tell you what insurances you had more than 7 years ago other than the financial firm in question.

7 years seems a bit short nowadays if you are an existing customer. However, if you are no longer a customer with them, then it is not uncommon for records to be destroyed after 6 years. Although this would mainly be things like credit card statements. Loan data would usually be available longer although the documentation itself may no longer be. You dont say what type of PPI it is.

The salesperson from the claims company will tell you whatever they have to to earn their commission from signing you up.

Can't comment on Lloyds or Bradford and Bingley but with regards to Yorkshire Bank I got all my transaction history back to 1988 and credit card statements for an account that closed in 1998. It took time and persistence to get the bank to locate the information, so don't give up yet.

If you have been a customer in the last seven years that will help, and you need an account number for whichever product you took out with them. Did you send a DSAR?

They found my data from the early 1990s and not banked with them since then. I wrote and asked for data, included complete address history and date of birth. A few weeks later they wrote back with all the products I'd held with them.

The reclaim company can do no more than you can, don't be fooled.
  • Don't know if you will want to hear this but I have been fighting this bank since March 2013. They originally claimed that I had never paid PPI ever! They then changed their tune when I got a claim firm involved in 2014 and in Nov 2015 admitted that there were 5 loans and a mortgage account that had had PPI attached to them. Since then, I have been fighting to get the correct amount of PPI compensation as what they offered was only a percentage of what was actually paid.
Fortunately I now have all my documentation but it has taken me months to trawl through over 2000 bits of paper and what I have found has appalled me. At one point, it very much looks as though they were using my account details for internal fraud or money laundering - who takes out 2 loans on the same day and repays one - on the same day????? I am currently putting together my case for the FOS regarding my mortgage account and now PPI claim. Yorkshire Bank are known for being extremely reluctant to pay back anything (witness their reputation over the bankd charges in 2007). However, they have also been fined £21,000,000 in 2015 for 'editing' customer records to wipe out any evidence that a customer had paid PPI. Their reason for not paying the correct amount of PPI is that they 'presume' (their word, not mine) that as the loans were repaid early (ie - I took out 'top-up loans') then a refund on the PPI was credited to the new loan account. However, they have no evidence that this was done, whereas, I have evidence to put this into doubt.
I hope you have success with them and would welcome updates on how you are doing. If you need any help, give me a shout.
  • Also meant to say, that included in all my information and documentation, they included mortgage statements for someone else and on closer inspection, I discovered that they had re-used my mortgage account number within 3 years of my mortgage being paid off. A complete breach of Data Protection.
  • Hello. I did the template off her to recalime my ppi with Yorkshire Bank, this was at least 2012 and i did recieve back about £600 from what i can remember. They never argued the case with me. Anyway last summer 2016 i had a letter of them saying they had miscalculated and i had a cheque for £1600.now this surprised me.
BUT do they take into account different account numbers? Or if the account was a single or joint account? Me and my other half have had single, joint accounts and only i have had two credit cards.Same addres for all.
Sorry for hijacking but hope the first part helps.
