Does this sound about right? They quoted me £3000 for a full rewire so this seems a bit steep in comparison.
Total £1445
The house up north and vacant, and all cables are to be set into the walls, includes VAT and materials.
- Consumer unit upgrade to 17th edition including mains tails and earthing testing and certification £475
- Extra sockets in bedrooms to bring the total to three per room £350
- Install a mains wired smoke detector circuit to include 3x smoke detectors,1x heat detector and a carbon monoxide detector £460
- fix earth fault to attic light £80
- fault fiding to high resistance reading on earth of ring main £80
Total £1445

daylight robbery if you ask me...but than again My dad is an electrician and has thought me everything so I can do the stuff myself. Find someone else you should be able to do it for £445 from a private electrician not £1445.0

Pretty much my view, I'd be surprised if they added a new circuit for smoke alarms, they are usually in the lighting circuit. (oh no someone is going to shout at me for daring to say this) Is it a 3 storey house? Id be generous and say £700-800 for the lot, great job for the money at that price.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0 -

The wiring isn't just for power, it's so one smoke alarm will trigger all the others.
OP: how many bedrooms?
£160 to find two earth faults might be a bit pricey.0 -

If a house cheap if thats an indicator, ditto works that there is enough info to make a reasonable estimate are also, But you'll get those that are clueless and just say it should be cheaper because they base there pricing on not knowing a thing0
