Can I get postage cost refunded?

I ordered a bulky item from Wilko - it was £12 with a £3.99 delivery charge which I thought was ok. Since I was paying the delivery anyway I added another little item worth £4.

The small item turned up within a few days, then 10 days after the order was placed I got an email saying that there was no stock of the larger item so they have refunded the £12. Apart from the inconvience as I needed this item and though they could have let me know sooner, I have now paid £3.99 postage on a £4 item which I wouldn't have done if I knew.

Do I have any rights to get the postage refunded, or return the small item to get the whole lot refunded? I have emailed them to ask but several days ago and still haven't had a reply, not sure whether to push it or not (I know it's only a small amount but would be good to know how this works, for future reference)

Thanks

In theory I believe you have the right to return the small item and have the whole lot refunded.

However in practice the legal position is not likely to be that relevant as you are unlikely to sue over the cost of postage.

I would speak to them and explain the unfairness of the situation. If they refuse to do anything your practical option is to not use them in future.
