Currently under SSE THTC and should I switch?
I just recently moved into a new place and it is registered under SSE's total heating total control. I'm a university student so I'm completely new to dealing with electricity bills and tariffs and have no idea how things work and so would greatly appreciate it if someone can explain it all to me in the simplest way possible.
So, from what I know, with the THTC meters, there are two rates. A cheaper rate for heating and hot water and another rate for the rest? Currently, we're only using the electric heaters (there are storage heaters in the living room but we don't use them at all as we're rarely in there) and we only need hot water for the shower which comes from the electric shower. So, would these two things be charged off the cheaper rate?
Also, we're thinking of switching providers to cheaper options although it seems like a huge hassle to get the THTC meters switched to another provider as SSE is the only one that deals with them. Has anyone switched from these before and would you recommend that I do? If so, which providers would you recommend?
tl;dr: currently with SSE under their total heating total control meters. Don't know how things work and whether I should change providers given my usage.

Welcome to MSE :hello:
Do not attempt to switch supplier with your existing type of metering. Attempts to do so invariably end in tears.0 -
I'm in a similar situation. Do you know if other suppliers support properties with THTC meters or would it involve getting the meter/heating system switched?
SSE have told me that electricity is on a higher rate so your electric shower/heaters would come under this.0
