I'm more jealous of the people that make £10 go 100 ways. The one who got a £200 bonus and is going on holiday and got a new kitchen with it. The mind boggles. Amazing. I want that skill.Loan 1 £5200/£8000
Loan 2 £300/£5800
Total £5500/£138000 -
Its natural to compare but people are less likely to discuss their finances than their sex life! They might have a 35 year mortgage, 2 cars on finance, several credit cards, loans etc for all you know. Most people want to give the impression of doing well so borrow to do it. I feel a failure sometimes as we don't own our house but it will happen. I'm thankful I have my health, a good husband and lovely daughter and fab parents. I know so many people who don't have that. I once heard a story of a man who envied his boss. He had great cars, a big house, flashy holidays etc. Anyway when the man retired, his boss admitted that he had always secretly envied him! He was unhappy in his marriage and owed a load of money and never spent time with his kids unlike the other man! It was all just show.
You are in a great position to pay off your debts so it won't be long till you are debt free . watch ' Dave Ramsey's debt free screams' on YouTube. Very inspirational.0 -
Here's a little technique you can try to remind you to be glass half full and trick your brain - I can't take credit for it, I read about it - but I can't remember where.
Every now and then have a little think about the mantra "how can I make today even more awesome" (or something a little less cheesy along the same lines.)
I find this tricks my brain to have the starting point that today is awesome and for me this is a short cut to counting my blessings. E.g. we are (generally) safe in our lives and homes, have food for our bellies and warmth at the touch of our button. This makes us richer than the vast majority of the world - and that "us" includes people on a low income/on benefits or with debt.
"Even more awesome" doesn't mean skydiving but perhaps turning off the tv and chatting to my loved ones, spending time with a friend or watching a tv show I love with a cup of tea and a bar of chocolate.
It is a little cheesy I know but try it and you might be surprised how deliberately thinking positive can make you actually feel positive.

There have been some fantastic ideas and comments, hope I can add my twopennyworth.
I envy some people who I know have a lot more money than me. However when I feel envious I try to remember the saying "true happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have"
Based on that I am happy.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0
