Did you just change vehicle details or did you change any other info? You've triggered fraud alerts due to the amount of quotes that you've done which is why the prices have hiked. Unusual for just car changes to do this in isolation. If you've played around with occupations, address, licence details, where the car is kept, no claims bonus, accident/conviction details etc then that would explain it.
How long it will take to clear will depend on what you have been changing. Just car changes should clear after 30 days or so for most of the providers but it does sound like it's not just car details that you've changed.

  • Yeah that could explain it, because I was insured on the van for 30 days, and the first quote I put in was for a mercedes 200e 2litre car and it come in at £1500.... And I did indeed tweak things like conviction, seeing what the difference was with the conviction and no conviction (drink drive conviction).

So it's really going to suck if I have to wait for 30 days now???
  • Also, let's say I play around now with new name, address 3 doors down and different date of birth, get a quote I like, what then?

Dummy quotes shouldn't come back to bite

Well the quote is based on false name, address and age so it's not valid.

You then put the real stuff in to get a valid quote. Use an address up the road and a DoB a day or two removed from your own and a false name. The quote you get from the bogus stuff should be pretty much what you'll get when you go for the real thing.
  • Well I had to post this..
I don't want to give out too much info on here as god knows who's looking, but I do have a DR10 from motorbike (I have learned my lesson now).

I retsrated Firefox, cleared cookies and cache, maybe they are still using my IP address.... Because a DE10 should not be insulting me as much as this?!

(edit can't post link as new user - but it's a screen grab saying it's going to be between £5,500 and £23,500 to insure on a 1.9l 2001 3 series.

Well that's tosh, as the false details won't return correct credit score or electoral role detail. Just to name two enrichment factors used in rating.

Dummy quotes allow you to look into the relative difference between two variables (i.e. Different cars) but it's only the percentage difference which should be taken from dummy quotes, not actual values.

OK, there's your problem. Adding and removing the DR10 will have triggered most insurers fraud alerts. Unfortunately it's unlikely to be 30 days to clear now with a lot of insurers. Your best bet may be to contact the insurer that gave you the best price WITH the DR10 by phone and explain to them what has happened (i.e. their prices have now increased) and they may be willing to match the original price.
It's a pain in the butt for you now but due to the nature of the conviction that you have, adding it and removing it will look like a fraudulent attempt to get cheaper insurance to all of the automated systems out there. A human being equipped with common sense on a phone is what you need...

  • OP, did the £1500 price include your DR10?
