This may be a naïve question,

If the original download breaks your internet connection how can you later download the patch to restore the connection.

Not a naive question, you've spotted the problem. :) #catch22

no catch just set the adaptor to use a static ip and not to use dhcp, set dns to router address or say 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 or the opendns ones etc

spud you could charge 50 for that,:rotfl: pence though

I still don't get why people use DHCP for their own devices in their own house/network, yes it is easier (lazy) but hey if your device is portable it will connect to the foreign network using DHCP, but at home why ? for windows devices look here to set it with a static ip. It is also possible for iOS and Android devices , linux users will generally know how to do it too but there are lots of options for all devices to be found using google https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=setting+a+static+setting+ip+address&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&ei=3g1TWNXQLKaXgAaz_LHYDA

EDITED:oh and the same should apply for wifi printers etc. As for WPS buttons they are the spawn of the devil and you should turn off WPS on your router if possible ..... end of rant

Think GJ's trying to start an argument. :)
So why are you always moaning about Win 10 wifi and audio drivers?
You must be minted with all the sorting needed after the monthly updates. :D

Because I can't be bothered setting static IPs for 16+ devices especially when there is no advantage to a static IP address for many devices I have no need to know the address. Only my Roku Soundbridge and Printer are on static IP's due to their Web Interfaces, so I know where to log into them and they are set in the router using the MAC address to IP binding outside the DHCP range. I agree with you on the WPS never used it and its disabled the button on the router is set to switch wifi on/off instead.
