bitdefender perhaps rather , but you use avast ignore the nagging ....that is going to more prevalent with most free ones. But i use NIS which is paid for and despite what the nay sayers say it is lighter on resources than most (about the same as kaspersky which is free if you bank with barclays i believe)Yeah mine was the same, have saw two free a/v programs, TotalAV and Scanguard so might download one of these4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . is there any rationale behind your decision process, you had a working antivirus from a well known reputable company
I'd Avast before and I uninstalled it.
and are replacing it with anything that crosses your pathI installed the free BT Web Protect and BT Virus Protect (McAfee software included) as recommended by BT and I think my laptop is running slower since I installed it!Did you mean AVG or TotalAV?

I thought Defender used the same virus signatures as major other AV brands (they are pooled in the AV industry). I recently uninstalled McAfee from a new PC and enabled Windows Defender as it was unable to stream iPlayer. Result so successful that I then removed Avast from my media hub laptop, enabled Defender which promptly discovered some threats in the internet history folder.debitcardmayhem wrote: »IMHO yes just like a chocolate fireguard would against a chimney fire , santa would love the chocolate buttons on the 25th0 -
Windows defender, a bit of self dicipline and the occasional scan with malwarebytes is all you need0

because a bt rep advised I uninstall any free a/v programs and install the mcafee one as it's more reliable, hence slowing down my laptop mcafee is now goneis there any rationale behind your decision process, you had a working antivirus from a well known reputable company

With some AV programs there's a 'Web Protect' type option which checks every website you visit and flags/blocks dodgy ones. However I've yet to see feedback on one of these where it doesn't seriously slow down browsing.0
