I also completed dry january and feel it has changed my drinking habits.
I need to pick two or three nights a week to have a tipple and try to stick to it! It was just so easy to grab a glass of wine each night. It becomes a habit.
Im quite good with money but in Sep last year, I went from being paid weekly to being paid monthly which totally threw our finances.
Savings pots went out the window and what with Xmas spends,,car expenses, insurances all arriving in January and a big holiday needing paying last week, we have had to put a bit on the credit card.
I hate it!!!
Have got back on the straight and narrow now and all savings pots started so we have the necessary funds this time next year.
Wont be booking any treats till card paid off again which should take us three months maximum.
Well done on adjusting to sort it. Took me a lot longer to catch on!ChasingSunshine wrote: »Just read through and well done, especially with tackling the habit of ordering stuff after some alcohol. So easily done but just leads to collection of mainly useless things arriving (well in my case anyway!!)
At least I have plenty of unnecessary stuff to sell. I wont get all my money back, but a start!clearmydebts wrote: »It really is so easy to fall into the habit of pouring a glass of wine every evening. In my case it was 'because I deserved it'. We are a long time out of the habit now and just tend to have a drink on a Fri and Sat night.
staying dry has been a huge part of my mindset change. It was too easy when I was plastered to say **** it!!!!0 -
Wow dprovan - glad to see that you're still doing well. I also did dry January, I don't drink much anyway though.“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.”

Its been a while since my last post.
Things are going good. We continue to work with the spending diary and the budgets for food and spending. Our emergency fund is sitting at £1,100 which is great.
Our debt has reduced by £1,439 (2%) since end of December. We are delighted with this given that the debt must have been increasing probably £1k per month prior to then so quite a reversal.
The experience hasn't been difficult, challenging or painful thankfully our earnings are strong. But it shows how easy it is to be stupid!! as we were. Anyway the key is learning.....
We have never been happier!0 -

Yes dprovan great progress. You say the key is learning however you are obviously a strong partnership. Lots of 'we continue to work', 'our fund', 'we are delighted' etc.so I think the key is working and learning together!

I may have missed something , but where are you making significent savings ? In your SOA you have listed £700 fo discretionary spends ,and as everyone pointed out this us the one place you vould rwallh save money . Yet you are taking £175 per week to still fund this .......this makes £700 per four weeks btw , so the monthly spend is slightly higher.I dont believe you havd had a light bulb momentVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0
