Halogen to led - transformer problem

Got six lamps with 12v MR16 GU5.3 35w bulbs.

Replaced the six bulbs with 12v 5w leds. each lamp had a transformer rated at 20 - 60va for the halogens. Have removed 5 of the six transformers and wired so that all six leds run from one transformer with the new rating of 30 watts in total.

But that transformer only lasted 15mins before getting hot and died.

Rechecked wiring with a meter no shorts or resistance is seen with all bulbs removed

Have I got to get a higher rating/different transformer etc..

you will need to buy a led transformer as some wont work with leds
  • could I fit a diode to stop reverse polarity to solve the problem if I used one of the spare transformers I now have.

You already have. Six of them.
  • OK,

As I have 6 12v leds in a string each rated at 5w.

Would a 2.5A driver solve the problem or other.
