Switching to BT from Post Office Home Phone for BT Basic

Hi all

My grandma is currently with Post Office Home Phone and is coming to the end of her minimum contract period. I've looked and as she receives Pensions Credit (Guaranteed Credit) I believe she will be eligble for BT Basic.

My question is, what is the best way to switch her to BT so that she can then apply for BT Basic? I don't want to switch her to BT and find that she then can't apply for BT Basic because of a minimum term or some other contractual limitation.

Many thanks

M.

The BT Basic deal has recently changed and is now a much better proposition.

£5.10 line rental per month including £1.50 allowance to use against calls.

Calls to 01 and 02 landline numbers are charged 3.3p per call plus 11.3p per minute. This includes landline numbers allocated in CI and IoM.
Calls to 03 non-geographic numbers are charged 3.3p per call plus 11.3p per minute.
Calls to 071-075 & 077-079 mobile numbers are 3.3p per call plus 11.576p per minute daytime, 6.47p per minute evening, 3.406p per minute weekend.

Once you have spent £10 on the above calls in a month (takes around 90 minutes or so), additional calls to those numbers attract no further charges.

Calls to 080 numbers are free.

Calls to 084, 087, 09 and 118 numbers have a zero Access Charge, you just pay the Service Charge. At weekends, calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers are free. You don't even pay the Service Charge.

    Call charges for 055, 056, 070 & 076 numbers are unknown.

BT Broadband can be added for an additional £5 per month.

Contact BT, as it is the new provider who needs to take over or she could lose her number.

I've been through this recently with my mum but the post office are refusing to close her account with them. I'm the designated authority on her post office account but they won't take a closure request from me and insist it has to be from my mum who, for various reasons, is unable to make that at the moment.
