Planning permission - Drawings

Options
My husband and I have tried to submit our own plans for a two story side extension.
We have done everything but are a little stuck with the plans.
I thought I was being clever and have adapted the plans from another house on our estate who submitted similar plans.
But now I've been informed that the council want them in PDF form not jpeg.
So I'm guessing being in jpeg form they are not printing to scale and still won't if I simply convert them to PDF.

Is this because professional drawings are done on an A3 scale?

Is there any way round this, or will I have to start again with graph paper and a pen?

Thanks in advance

it suggests to me they just want it in a different format.... get it saved into PDF, do a quick print out to make sure it looks ok then submit it!

You realise that you have probably committed copyright theft? There would have been a warning on the Council's website not to copy and use other peoples designs.
  • Thanks for the info.
All the houses are exactly the same and we have not used their extenstion design as our extension plan is different.
I had seen people mention on here to look at other people's plans and adapt as suited.
Didn't think it would be a copy right issue!
Thanks for the advice though and I will look into it.

It is fine to look at other applications to get inspiration then go away and draw your own plans.

There will be guidance on the Council's website on the information you need to submit to get the planning application validated, one is the plans must be produced at a standard scale. The norm is to submit them online in pdf format but you could print them off and submit paper copies if yours are jpegs (but they still need to be to scale).

Why not convert and print to check?

I scanned my hand drawn drawings into Photoshop for finishing and then saved them as PDF documents. All but one were A2 size. As I suggested above, I printed off the section with the scale on to verify that they were being printed at the correct scale.
