2007 VW Passat TDI Estate - Good or Bad buy.
Hi
can anyone please give me some advice .
I am looking for a larger estate style car to replace my
current ford fusion which is showing its age and suffering from a
slipping clutch .
Someone locally is selling 2007 VW Passat 1.9 S TDI which seemms to be in good
condition and will cost arond the same insurance as my current car .
They are looking for around £2800 which seems to be around what they sell for online
- it has full service history - 2 owners 101k on the clock - 12 month MOT - just had the breaks done
and £200 repair to the button handbrake.
Is there anything I should look out for when going to view or ask if has been done ( cambelt etc) .
Also is there anyway to check if the car is fitted with a DPF as I have
been advised not to buy an older diesel that has one .
Any advice would be much appreciated

Great cars but those DPFs are a worry. My dad has stopped driving long trips in his lately and is now having DPF issues. Seems the DPF issues can be resolved with some heavy driving although if it's blocked it can cost lots to fix.0

2007 should be just before DPF was fitted. I have a 2007 2.0TDI and there is no DPF.
Mine has nearly 170k miles on it, been a great workhorse over the last 7 years I've owned it.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
VAG 1.9TDIs were never DPF-equipped.0

Thanks for taking the time out to reply . Is £2800 a fair price , it is the more basic S model so no cruise control .0

Thanks for everyone for taking the time out to reply , so if it has the DPF should I walk away?
Been looking for the last 2 weeks and becoming more stressed as my car will not last another week , I was going to get it repaired but been qouted £600 for a clutch and DMF.0 -

Not necessarily. Just consider your mileage.0 -
£600 on a car you know is less than £2800 on an unknown vehicle which may have a DPF, which if it does need replacement will cost at least £600.0

I do around 15,000 miles a year . I did consider a Japanese petrol as I have been told that they can be more reliable and less to go wrong than a diesel . It is just that I need something with a high loading area like the fusion of a estate .
My current car is a 2003 fusion diesel with nearly 155k on the clock and the garage who did the last MOT told me not spend any more on it.0 -
