New Build - how to get the best energy deals
I am in the middle of buying a new build house as a first time buyer and at the moment the builders are paying for the electricity, gas and water on a tariff. I would like to ring the current supplier to find out what tariff I will be on. Depending on what is said I was hoping to either find a cheaper supplier or stick with them, but if I wanted to switch how would I go about doing so on a new build?

Hi - welcome to the forum. The property will be on the supplier's Deemed (standard variable) tariff. You need to contact the Deemed Supplier with a meter reading(s). From this point onwards, you are free to switch - HOWEVER -
Third-World industry procedures means that it can take some weeks for your meter numbers to be added to the meter database. If you try to switch before this is done, the switch may fail. My advice would be to check what other tariffs the Deemed Supplier has on offer (note any exit fees) and transfer internally. You will then have time to assess usage before going to a comparison site to get the best deal (these vary with postcode and usage). This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
