O/S Daily Wednesday 14 December 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark here, damp and dirty but the air is mild.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Dinner last night was takeaway pizza and chips that DS1 organised for him and DH whilst DS2 and myself were in the next town - we had dinner out, at a well known pizza place, very nice but not cheap, he had pizza, I had a delicious salad. We had planned to go to a spoons' type place but it was at the other end of the town and I knew the pizza place was there but had just forgotten about it, and once we'd parked the car, found where the Graduation ceremony was being held, decided that it would be a better idea to eat there as it was on the same street and a 2 minute walk from the venue.
Dinner tonight will be breaded chicken portions, with pizza in a cheese and bacon sauce, with a side portions of mushrooms and peas.
I was very good whilst we were shopping yesterday, I collected mine and DH's theatre tickets for the show we've booked in January, also bought my parents gift voucher. I then managed to find a huge bottle of the aftershave DH likes at half price, decided also to buy my perfume whilst there and have bought a new to me perfume, but smells lovely and it's in a gift pack, so that's a gift each for me and DH to put under the tree, we've already been away a couple of weeks back, we have the upcoming theatre in January and then we've got tickets for one of the big comedian's tour in November next year - it all costs so I'd rather go away/theatre etc than have loads of gifts I may not use. We also have an early holiday booked for just DH and myself at the end of April. I will just buy DH some underwear and socks also - it's tradition in this house!
Back to work for me today and I'm working the extra hours so out all day.
Keep safe and well x

We didn't go out yesterday, Scampi wasn't even keen on going in the garden. He was very relaxed though, just pottering about between naps, which were taken on the sofa on his back with his legs either splayed or stuck up in the airHe didn't eat or drink much, I think it's a reaction to his booster. I expect he'll be his normal bouncy self again today, he's already asked to go outside (had to be encouraged yesterday) and has eaten a bit of his food.
I'm feeling festive again, thanks to Christmas24 and a wax melt called Candy Cane ForestAll the decorations are done, except the tree. I've made a bit of progress, it now has lights and some strings of shiny green beads. Today I really must catch up with the washing and run the hoover round. I'll do the dusting too but most surfaces are now covered so it won't take long

Morning All
Damp outside but incredibly mild for December. Had a shocking nights sleep, will have to make sure I get some fresh air today to stay awake.
Went to the blue and yellow shed after work yesterday to pick up a couple of bits, 20 mins to get there, 10 mins to find what I was looking for, 50 mins to get home (traffic horrendous) only to find that I didn't have have my bag. Last time I saw it was in the baby seat of the trolley in the car park! Anyway I phoned and they had it so had a mad dash back to pick it up - everything still there thank goodness. It has restored my faith in humanity!
Anyway, the kitchen is coming on now, worktops on and upper units on the wall, hoping for miracles today!
Hugs to you and your family LWW, Lainey - hope DM is ok.
Thinking of you TA, hope all goes well.
Absolutely no OS here, I'll try harder today! Take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone.
Thanks for the thread nmlc and thanks for the carol tru.
Same here Camelot, damp, dark and mild. Again I woke up because of being too hot during the night.
Yesterday went a bit manic. Leaking water now fixed, the hose had come out of the pipe because the pipe had somehow dropped, I presume water had been coming out for ages. The plumber won't take any money for the repair as he argued he must have done a poor job in the first place when he did the installation. He got a generous dram instead.
As he was just finishing another neighbour dropped by. I suspect he saw the plumbers car and wanted to chat to him so it all got a bit jolly. I ended up with a big box of lamb meat from an animal which was bred, born and grazed a mile away. Hebridean lamb, those black ones with horns. Lovely.
I have more drop in visits here than ever before. Because most people live more than a mile away they make more effort to stop when driving past.
The postman got me very confused by driving to my house from the left. The usual route is approaching me from the right and then his final call is the farmer next door. Seems he's doing more on his route for operational reasons. Bloomin' Christmas upsetting even the posties route.
Christmas tree now on the window ledge looking a bit wonky but festive in a sort of stripped back way. I found some very ancient Lametta which twinkles and reminds me of my childhood. It's a kind of naked tinsel and is draped and hangs down. Lovely stuff.
TA and MrTA will be on their way by now but my thoughts are with them. And with all having a tough time.
Hair cut first thing then I have make room for my fresh supply of meat which currently in a neighbours big chest freezer. That'll take a while. I may have to consider a small chest freezer for the small barn in the future.
Happy Wednesday everyone.0 -
Morning, thanks for the thread nmlc x Glad you had a nice time last night. I agree about having a treat instead of presents. Great idea x
Hugs to LWW on your loss, I did post late last night but just wanted to add my condolences xx
Went to bed with s headache and it's still there, not helped by DH flinging his arm out during the night and bopping me in the face! Lord only knows what he was dreaming about. I have dosed myself up as work will be busy today and it's also the staff carol concert at 3pm so a shorter day anyway.
Tonight DH and I are out for dinner with the amdram friends, so dad and children will need cooking for. Will ask DH to organise that.
Hugs to Mr TA for today's procedure (I think that's right?) and to Lainey for DMum xx also anyone else who is struggling xxx
Hope you all have a great day,

Morning all
Off to work in a sec, fish fed, packups made. I watched Love Actually last night after going out with DD1 and 2 of the DGC. Also took up a pair of trousers for my L&M and did some more crotchet. I'm making the wavy cushion covers from Attic24 using up as many odd balls as I can as I have 6 cushion pads that need using up.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning, like Camelot, we have damp but mild weather.
Will be getting ready for work in a while. Am working late so don't want to go too early but must be there by 10 to do staff supervision.
OH has just got up, normally he waits for me to wake him so that I can have a lift to get the bus. No reason, apparently, I did wonder if he had A Plan but no.
I need to complete Christmas's preps this week, won't have time until Friday though. I am looking forward to a break now.
Hope everyone has a good or good enough dayI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone,
Dull but at least dry here this morning, the super moon is just setting on the horizon, we didn't see it all last night as it was too cloudy.
DM is with us at the moment, she promised to be honest with me about her ability to travel etc and said that she would like to come over for a couple of days. She has brought her cards to write and some pressies that I will help to wrap along with mine. If she feels up to it we will pop down to the garden centre in the village as she wants to buy my OH some of those solar lights for the garden after he remarked the other day how dark the path can be at night.
Thank you for all your well wishes, she is very frail but we all make the most of every day and I think it helps that she has set herself the goal of reaching Christmas.
Thinking of TA and Mr TA, hope all goes well with the appointment.
Thanks for the carol TRU had to laugh at scampi's sleeping position, my girls are always tired the day after their annual booster.
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x0 -
Morning All x
Thank you for all your kind thoughts yesterday and this morning. It is going to be a hard time for all the family. Just have to keep going and be strong for them all as well as me(but that's what we do)
DH and DD2 have gone to work as they want to keep busy and their minds distracted, neither of them had to as their bosses have been really good.
So plan for today to stop me getting down in the dumps is..
empty DW , Do a load of washing , make the lists of whats left to do for xmas , get the xmas food shopping list sorted, and if i need something else to do i will sort kitchen cupboards out.
Anyhoo thanks again as it was much appreciated to know people cared.
Hugs to all in need xxBright Blessings xx0 -
Good morning chums and condolences to LWW and family he is at peace now and not in pain xx
So mad sad and poorly folk around at the moment It seems even harder when everyone else is bright and jolly doesn't it.But life does and will go on.
I didn't got to quiz night last night and I shan't be going to the U3A Christmas Party either today, just don't really feel very well at all I was in bed by 6.30 lst night and have only just got up this morning. Not at all like me at all. This cold bug has knocked the stuffing out of me I think.I must get better soon as its DGS Danny's Wedding next week so I want to be fit and well for that.I have completely lost my appetite and have just been drinking bovril and water as anything elses just doesn't appeal at all.
DD should get the results of Bowies biopsy at some point today fingers crossed for him.He seems to have perked up a bit and is eating well apparently.
Hope Caterina got off OK and she has a good time in Italy.
Right I am off to have a shower now and maybe I will feel fresher afterwards
Take care all and <<hugs >> to the sad and blue

I was up early today because DH has gone in to work so our days can start getting back to normal. The house seems very empty after him being at home for 3 months.
I want to go and get the marzipan and icing for the cake. Please don't drum me out of OS but I have decided to get the ready rolled stuff. DS called to say that his request for time off over Christmas has been denied so we might have to cancel Christmas in Yorkshire - if he cab get boxing day off we'll still go but if not we'll stay here. I have ordered a turkey and a couple of other bits from Booths in Yorkshire and had to pay a deposit so I'll ring them, pay the remaining few pounds and ask them to donate it to a family in need.
I've almost finished the wrapping, I've amazed myself, I think it's the earliest it's ever been done, they're now causing a trip hazard round the tree because some are too large to go under it.0
