Kobo e-reader incompatible with Windows 10?

Worked before the update, but not now. Tried virtually everything, and the Kobo device doesn't show up on Adobe Digital Editions. Only bought it in March...and now it may as well be bricked . Windows and their bloody updates :(.

Any ideas, please?

This could happen if the Kobo software hasn't yet been updated to work with the updated Win 10. Have you tried a wifi connection with the Kobo to see if there is a new version available for download and installation?
Failing that, try installing Calibre. It has its own drivers built-in and should connect your Kobo without a problem, allowing access to its contents and side-loading ebooks etc. I've got 2 Kobos and find it perfectly possible to do just about everything via wifi, and very rarely connect to the PC.

Thanks. Kobo is up to date. I've downloaded calibre, so what now? I right click the book I want and send to device? Nothings happening. I need talking through it like a technophobe.

I assume the laptop has to be manually connected to the Kobo, and doesn't work wirelessly?
  • Pressed "view", and it says its protected by DRM! This is a library e-book I'm trying to download by the way.

The amount of faffing about with this, I could of (and can) read the whole book straight off my f*cking laptop by now....:( :D

Calibre works best via a cable connection, but doesn't handle DRM protected files for reading. They need the Adobe authorisation, which should be on your Kobo already. Try the forums at https://www.mobileread.com
There is a Kobo section on there with vast amounts of information and help.

You only mention that your Kobo isn't showing up in Adobe Digital Editions, does it show up ok in windows explorer?

I'd second the recommendation for heading over to the mobileread forum and posting your question in the Kobo section.

I know there were lots of problems initially with Windows 10, but I'm sure that was more about Calibre not seeing Kobo's in early versions of Windows 10 and it should have been fixed with windows updates... although that huge thread is still active in the Kobo forum.

Doesn't show up anywhere. Simplest solution is either try to revert Laptop back to windows 8, or ask for my money back at the store I bought it from: John Lewis (had a 2 year guarantee). Not much hope there really as I doubt its the e-reader thats faulty, it just hates Windows 10.
  • may need to check what version of ADE you have. I echo others you should have a look on mobileread :)

My Kobo e-reader works fine for me on Windows-10. I dont use ADE though, just the Kobo Desktop interface which is for books bought from Kobo. Perhaps it's an ADE problem - is this relevent?

You aren't knowingly using ADE, but the Kobo Desktop is using it via your Kobo login. If it is not active on your Kobo itself you won't be able to read the books purchased from Kobo. Check the Kobo settings and you'll see the ADE authorisation.
