  • Take double the amount of sanitary pads you'll think you'll need... At one point I was changing them every 30 mins in hospital.

And ear plugs. Nothing worse than being stuck on a post natal ward with snorers, criers (mum's, not babies), arguers.... When all you want to do is get some kip.

The first hospital I stayed in allowed dads to stay overnight. One was loudly on the phone until late, got a pizza delivered, and then snored incredibly loudly ALL night! Another dad kept rocking the baby is a squeaky crib next to my curtain at random points in the night. I was in lots of pain a had laboured throughout the previous night so was exhausted already. That night was torture. However I don't know if I'd have used ear plugs in case they stopped me hearing my own new baby cry or vomit. Unless of course my partner was staying too and then we could take turns watching out fir our baby.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

My advice is to take a nightie. I only took pjs and as i ended up having an emergency c section and a catherta for over 24 hours i was stuck in a hospital gown. Also a towel might come in useful!

Anything that reduced hearing was specifically banned at the hospital my wife gave birth in.
