Parking Charge Notice (PCN) from Horizon Parking on behalf of Sainsbury's

Hi,
We received a PCN today for overstaying in Sainsbury's for an extra 20mins (they have a two hour limit).
Friends have advised me to ignore the notice as it's not a proper penalty issued by the council, they say it's a private company issuing it so it's not enforceable. Grateful for any advice on this. With Xmas just around the corner, I can't really afford to cough up £40 - £70 and I don't want to get into any trouble.

Your friends are wrong. Very wrong.
There's a whole (sub) forum about this, you need to head there and read the "NEWBIES READ THIS FIRST" thread and follow the advice. Post in that forum with any specific questions.0 -
Will your friends be willing to pay all the added expenses if it goes to court? The Supreme Court has ruled these charges can be enforced.
Go to the Parking sub forum. Take a read of this https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/48168220 -

Under specific circumstances - let's not scaremonger unnecessarily.
The rest of the advice is correct.
If you're in England or Wales, ignoring a private parking charge notice has NOT been the advice since October 2012. If you're in Scotland or NI then ignoring is still 100% the correct advice (for a private PARKING charge notice; council/PENALTY charges must never be ignored - anywhere).0 -
It could end up costing you a lot more than £40-£70 if you do ignore it so please do as everyone else has suggested.0
