Credit check for new contract added onto existing one?

Hi,
My husband has a hefty contract phone with ee that I think was about £60 per month and he's been paying it without issue for a few years.
We went in to add a new phone and contract to his contract and the girl said something about credit check but a guy piped up that it wasn't a credit check.
The next thing I heard was that we had been declined and my husband realised that he'd answered a question wrong because he used to be on O2 rather than always with ee. She said we would have to wait 3 months and try again.
The guy said it'd be fine and to put it through again answering correctly and that's what happened.
We'd been accepted but needed authorisation so we went away for 20 minutes and it was a done deal and we left.
Since I've been wondering if this might negatively effect our credit rating?
We are woefully ignorant of credit ratings but when I recently pondered getting a load it seemed to cost us a lot more than advertised - is that the same thing?
Thanks

Credit Ratings are spurious numbers and have no real relevance in the real world. It may only have been an identity verification so will not show anything other than the footprint of a check, which disappears quickly.0
