Holiday extra charge help

Hey guys,

After some advice.

Booked a holiday with Virgin on 16 September 2016 departure June 2017.

At the time of booking and upon receiving flight details I tried to book my seats on Emirates, but was not allowed to do so.

Today I was advised by a representative of Virgin "Angela" via live chat that I needed to pay for the flight part of my holiday before I could book my seats with Emirates, which I did.

Following payment I spoke to "Michelle" via live chat who issued the tickets.

On logging into emirates I was made to pay £120 for advanced seat allocation, on checking the terms, this service was free of charge at the time I made my booking on 16/09/2016. The charges came into effect on 03/10/2016.

I spoke to Emirates on the phone and was told it was not their fault as Virgin only issued tickets today.

I spoke to Virgin again on live chat and they said they can't control other airlines policies, I said I understood that but at the time we booked advanced seat allocation was completely free, so that should apply to our booking as those were the terms in effect when we purchased the holiday.

Can anyone advise us of our rights to get the £120 back as both companies are blaming each other and neither will budge on a refund.

Thanks, Gary & Ann

Is free seat allocation stated in your contract, or on the Virgin website/ brochure?

Do you need to book seating in advance?
  • Its not stated on the contract but it was free if you booked before 03/10/2016 this is on the Emirates website on their T&C's.

We book in advance on every holiday, its a personal choice.

We are just really annoyed as the Emirates website stated seat selection wa free if you booked before the date above, which we did.
  • A flight isnt ticketed until its been paid for. Extras on flights are usually charges in place at the time the extras are booked, not those in place when the booking was done.

If your confirmation states that you have free seat selection then you need to take it up with VH.

As Leylandsunaddict says, what matters is when your ticket is issued, not when you booked.
