Feedback on 'professional' Nest thermostat installation

Here's some feedback on professional installation from Nest...
I received an email telling me 'Don't forget your Nest installation' and to be in between 1300 and 1700 on the day.
I cancel half a day's work and wait.
At four o'clock on the day, three hours into the installation slot, I get a terse phone call saying they won't be coming to install and that it will be eight o'clock the next day. I say that might be difficult. Person on phone says that if I can't do eight, they can't do it.
I phone Nest and wait forty minutes on hold. When I get through, the guy in the call centre has trouble finding my order and says I might have to wait 'a while' as the computers are going slow. I say 'This isn't great customer service: I waste three hours waiting for an installer who doesn't turn up, forty minutes on hold and then you tell me your computers aren't working properly.' The chap says 'You'll need to speak to a supervisor' even though I say I don't want to and then I spend another thirty-five minutes on hold until I give up and put the phone down.
Ten minutes later, I receive a phone call from Nest. Apparently I 'need to understand' that the installers are 'third party contractors.' I reply that 'I pay Nest. Nest manages the contractors.' Nest offers to refund my installation fee so that I can arrange install myself, which means Nest offers nothing as it will cost more. I think I'm going to send the box back. I've lost hundreds of pounds in income for a non-existent installation and Nest couldn't care less.
Maybe British Gas and Hive isn't so bad after all.

I'm so pleased I went with Tado. I installed a sender unit on the boiler and a room thermostat myself - following their very detailed, step-by-step instructions specific to my system. I'm just an average geek and managed it with no issues at all. If you already have a wired thermostat it's even easier. Best of all, I rented the system initially so I could see if it was as good as they make out. It was, so I purchased it and got a credit for 6 months rental. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I also installed a Tado° system myself; very straightforward. I have a wired thermostat but I just disconnected it so I could locate the new thermostat elsewhere.0 -

It's like a Hive but round... like a nest.0 -
I went with Tado because I don't have regular hours when family are at home or not. Tado switches heating and hot water off (down) when your out and back on as you get closer to home. None of the others do this as far as I know.
I also went for the rent it first option and have now decided to purchase it taking advantage of the 6 months rental discount on the purchase price.
You can get Tado installed but it was quite easy to self fit.0
