Small flat roof , rough estimate?

We have a small flat roof that needs replacing - its above a door and the wood above the door in the porch type are is all rotten as well and needs replacing, it's around 5 1/2 ft by 8ft... What kind of a price should I be expecting? we have a guy booked to come and quote us and I know it will be a fair quote and a good job but I'm just trying to get an idea so it's not a shock because I have no idea!! Any ideas just roughly?

What kind of wood? How much? Is it structural? How complex a construction job? A joiner might charge £200 - £1000

Dimensions of flat roof? Thin cheap felt or thick long-lasting felt/modern alternative? A roofer might charge £200 - £1000
  • Hard to say , I'm not completely sure what needs doing, it's not a huge amount of wood /I wouldn't say it's structural (or I hope not) so is it that I may need a roofer and joiner? Sorry to be so vague!! It's a small amount of wood that covers the two stairs out to the back garden so not a big porch.

Well if you're "not completely sure what needs doing" how on earth can we tell you "What kind of a price should I be expecting?"

As for whether you need a roofer, a joiner, or both - again it depends what neds doing! ome simple wood repair work can probobly be done by anyone reasonably competant, including a roofer. More complex, critical wood work might need an expert - a joiner.

Same with the roof. I've re-felted my garden shed myself and I'm just a bodgy DIYer but I wouldn't attempt laying high-quality felt on a critical area.
