Re: Toshiba laptop Windows 10, forgot password and email account?

Hi,
I have a toshiba satellite laptop that hasn't been used for a while. I turned it on, all works but I completely forgot the password nor email account I used to signed in before. It's on windows 10 but originally windows 8.
Looking on the interent, its possible to use a usb to boot it. Problem is it doesn't recognised the usb. Can someone tell me how to do it? Its on insydeh2o bios. How much would they charge me if I will take it to a computer shop to have it reset?
Thank you.

Presumably it all works upto the login prompt or am I missing something?

Most people with Windows 10 have an MS live email address, if you've forgotten that password you may be able to reset it. Am I correct in thinking that you can reset a W10 machine via an MS account?

If it will go as far as the login screen you need to choose restart from that screen and hold down shift at the same time and that will get you into "recovery" mode where you can fully wipe the laptop. Of course this way you will lose everything but I'm yet to find a way of accessing a windows 10 device with a Microsoft account login if the details have been forgotten.

    I disagree. :)
  • I don't remember now the email address I used:(. I should have written it in my diary. Anyway yes, it will start up to login prompt then ask me my last password? As much as I would like to retrieve all the files in my laptop, I don't believe I can. Thank you for the last post, I will try tonight.

One option - if files are important - remove drive, connect to another computer via a disk caddy/adapter (cheap on Ebay/Amazon) and access the files via that computer (some Security settings may need tweaking). Regarding booting from USB - what computer is it exactly? Computer shops will charge from £50.
