Options
Hi

I am going to Tenerife South in November for a weeks holiday, the cheapest car hire i could find was with autoreisen.es, has anyone ever used them as i wanted to checkif they are any good. I dont want to turn up and there be no car there.

Thanks for your help

I've used Reisen and they seem ok. They're one of the more well-known car hire companies here in Tenerife. You might want to try www.travelsupermarket.com aswell, they often uncover the best deals in Tenerife and elsewhere.

I used them, they were ok, though I was supposed to get a Citroen Pluriel thing (cheap convertible), but they didn't have it, and I was 'upgraded' to a Kia Sedona (nasty plastic saloon).

The cars were new, no problems, no nasty bills on return. And yes, they were cheapest

I haven't used them, but I've seen some of their cars about in Tenerife, and they appeared to be fairly new.

I made a huge mistake of booking through lastminute.com. I normally book car hire through www.doyouspain.com who usually find me a really good deal. I've just checked on line and they would do a Ford Ka for 1 week for £83.

The price I got from lastminute.com was cheaper, but when I inspected the car it was covered in dents and one of the tyres was don to the wires, so I refused it. They then gave me an old clapped out car that had seen better days, but at least appeared safe. They also gave me a major headache by not giving me instructions on where to drop the car off when I returned it.

Yes, they did what they said on the tin with no nasty surprises. Try also doyouspain.com, low-cost-car.com, amigoautos.com - each of them has been cheapest for one holiday or another, none of them has always been the cheapest every time. Surprisingly I've found Hertz to be the cheapest on two occasions - sadly there's no substitute for tedious shopping around. Once you're in the region of what you're happy to pay save the repetetive strain injury.

I prefer the oddly-named DoYouSpain - have used them several times in the Canaries and mainland Spain. Only used Autoreisen once.

They took forever to find the paperwork (wasn't just me either - slowest-moving queue at the airport) and the car was the oldest I've ever hired... ever!

Your mileage may vary (I'd ordered an automatic) - only went with them as DoYou didn't have anything available (I suspect AR may not have, but when you can turn a few quid...).

I didn't mention that doyouspain actually use different companies. So far when booking through doyouspain I have used Record, Europcar, and another one that I can't remember. Europcar had the newest cars, and Record are sometimes so popular that you have to queue for an hour, but other times they are really quick.

I used AutoReisen in May this year in Tenerife.

They gave me an old knackered Ford Focus - old shape and had nearly 100,000km on it.

We reckoned it was about 8 years old!!!

Off to Gran Canaria next month - am using Avis via BA afiliate website (as I'm collecting BA Miles) this time.

We used them a couple of years ago. The citroen saxo we got had loads of faults (broken locks, broken mirrors etc), so I took it back the next day and a guy fixed them all while I waited (took about an hour). The child seat we hired from them didn't inspire me with any confidence at all though. I was very concerned whilst driving the car because of this.
