Redundancy, individual consultation, date question

Options
Hello,

I was wondering if I could ask for some help in understanding the below.

Our comany is currently going through a reorganisation, and my position has been removed from the business. I'm now in individual consultation, and about to have my third 121 meeting tomorrow, in which I am expecting to be told that I no longer have a role in the company, and that my notice period will then "start". I will then be expected to work until the beginning of January, and the remainder of my notice period will then be paid as PILON.

However, as part of this process I have applied for another position internally, which I have yet to hear back on- I have not been asked to attend an interview yet, my application has not yet been turned down, and nobody has applied for the role.

Is the company able to start my notice period whilst I am still applying for this internal position?

If any more information is needed, happy to provide!

Is it a comparable role? As I believe you must be offered one if it matches

No, it's not a comparable role- there weren't any roles that they considered so.

The role I applied for is a (small) step up from where I am, but one which I (and probably others) would be quite capable of doing.

they could but you could try to extend the consultation by asking why this other job(and others if any) are not being viewed as a potentially suitable alternatives.

Notice does not mean you are definitely redundant if you end up with another job with the same company up to 4 weeks after you finish.
