Not in UK

I have been under the belief that if a seller on eBay states that an item being sold is in the U.K. Then by law it has to be.
Recently I have brought a couple of items both stated they were in U.K. One when I received it was covered in German postage the other had come from China. I contacted EBay to complain but have had no reply.
Can anyone tell me if I'm correct or not

    It is against Ebay rules

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/item-location.html

Whether you can get Ebay to enforce their own rules is another matter. Also it depends whether it is a one off or not. There are a few sellers who are based in the UK but really are just fronts for non UK sellers. If their UK front is out of stock then they will just dispatch it themselves.

Don't forget to leave feedback. Not everyone will take notice but I would avoid a seller who has bad feedback for dispatching an item from a different country to the one they are suppose to be in.

As above the items location should be accurate. But the item you bought was deemed not fot for sale and they got it sent direct from the factory/other warehouse etc and ebay will probably let it go. Especially if they are making money for ebay.

Report 10 sellers for selling a banned item, if they are fairly new then watch the listings vanish fairly quickly. Not so with the sellers with good feedback. Once they are into 5 figures on the feedback they tend to get checked by the blind man/woman who will see no issue with their listing.

First, as they stand, neither are necessarily breaking a law.

I can't see any particular possible problems with the German one. Whilst we're still in the EU, cross border trade is quite easy across member states. The only problem I can see as far as Ebay would be concerned is if there was a delay in you receiving it. Lots of British companies send from other European countries. Amazon store some of our stock in European warehouses.

As for China, there are delay issues and possible tax problems depending on value. There are numerous ways this could be wrong and several innocent explanations.

As far as Ebay, or Amazon, or any marketplace, they won't just take one person's word. You really have little proof that the seller has sent item from where you claim. An envelope with your name on and some Chinese stamps doesn't prove the seller sent it. The best you can hope for is for Ebay to register your complaint, if they get similar complaints from others they may well act.

You can leave factual feedback and ratings.

It doesn't sound as though you had much delay and didn't have tax to pay, so why was this a big deal (just curious!).

  • for what it's worth..

If I chose to buy something from a non UK buyer it means I accept possible delays / whatever

If I chose to buy something from a UK seller it's because I want Uk consumer protection, faster arrival as stated as on the advert etc etc etc.

It might sound harsh but any seller who states "dispatched from the UK" and then sends from elsewhere is guaranteed a neutral if not a negative, simply because it is dishonest and there is too much dishonesty on eBay already.

Chinese sellers and no identifying marks is a PITA.

Bought 4 items recently (from China) 2 from one seller and two more from two different sellers.
1 item arrived, the thought of is this from a seller where i purchased one from or the seller i bought 2 from who only sent one?

Few days later another one arrived. Then the wait to see if another one turned up or two. It was the two so all good. But the thoughts of if one of the single buys didnt turn up, which seller should i claim from?

They need to mark their packages with something.

I think a another seller forgot to post an item, bought 2 and received one. Messaged them and they said its coming from a different location. Me thinks he forgot and was packing it as he typed the reply.

Seemed genuine so ordered 3 more also. I wont be smiling if he short delivers again though ..

This hacks me off when anyone does it, not a clue as to the provider...

Have they under-declared the value on the customs declaration? If so I'm not surprised it's anonymous.
