Rented Garage Contents

Hi,
I'm renting a 'lock-up' garage [which is some way from my house] from a private company, and would like to insure the [STRIKE]junk[/STRIKE] priceless valuables I store in there.

Neither my home Insurance company [Lloyds TSB] or the company I rent from can help- any ideas for a company who can cover me, please?

Cheers
Nick

I was with Direct Line some years back and had no issues providing its not for business use.

I had a large double garage with a classic car and tools etc.

That was a good few years ago though.

Direct Line wouldn't cover it anymore, as the garage isn't within the boundaries of your home.

Yes, that's the line Lloyds gave me- I'm sure I can't be the first person to try and get cover on a separate garage??
  • Try storage insurance.

Thanks Stuart- have done a quick google for 'Storage Insurance'- seems that most companies offering this need the storage unit to be on one of their 'approved sites' so doesn't apply to old garages.
Did you have a specific company in mind?

  • I didn't, it was just an idea. I've only ever needed it when I've had a storage unit in a facility, not just renting a garage.

    Try lock up insurance?
