Can't sleep for worrying about debts - HELP!

  • I pay my council tax weekly over 12 months ... I think it probably depends on the council. I have always spread my payments over 12 months.

Snap. I pay fortnightly over 12 months. I had been in arrears when I first came to this arrangement, maybe that helped.
It is definitely worth asking though.

  • I don't think it is linked to arrears, I didn't have any. It was just a pain to have a monthly bill when we got paid weekly. So we just asked if we could pay weekly and spread the payments over the whole year. They sent us out a revised bill with weekly amounts on and we pay by standing order.

  • Hello!

I'd echo everything that's been said already- your SOA is definitely workable, so just look at where you can cut down. I too was struck by how much PPI you seem to be paying each month, so I thought you may find this interesting.

Hope it's ok to post links, if not I'll apologise in advance.

This is a story covered by the BBC Wales X-Ray programme about the misselling of PPI and includes a standard letter if you think you've been missold it.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/x-ray/sites/allarticles/updates/7p01_ppi.shtml

There's also a guide on the page about the questions to ask about whether your PPI is actually worth anything.

Hope this will come in useful, and welcome again!

  • Hi OP welcome to the site! I really sympathise, I did my SOA yesterday and was shocked, left me quite depressed dor the rest of the evening. But its the best step.

Just briefly looknig down your SOA, I think there are lots of places you can cut down. Food is an easy place to cut down and your clothes bill seems very high. If you don't mind me saying, you spend a lot on the kids, couldn't they start paying for some of their own things out of their pocket money? If your eldest is 14, I think that is an appropriate age to ask her to pay for her own mobile out of pocket money. Plus, maybe you could encourage her to look for a saturday job? Please don't be offended, I am trying to help, not criticise the way you treat the kids! ;)

As everyone else has said, think you could definately reduce household bills by looking on the internet and changing providers etc... to get a better deal.

    Best of luck xx

Yep.. yer quite right... looked it up on t'net here as was curious as to many references to 12 months payment :D funny that tho, you'd think it would be across the board with all councils or not at all.
