    :T Agree. ^ If it ain't broke don't fix it. We have had normal credit meters since forever. They work fine. Smart meters need consigning to the history books.

    I only get 'het up' when people try to claim they send out mind altering boogy waves, or the data is sent to burglars who are too tech savvy to simply sit and watch to find out when you leave the house, or that they read extra usage so the nasty energy companies can make more profit. :rotfl:

    Pretty much the same way I get 'het up' with most of the other BS that gets liberally spread around this forum all day long.

    Personally, I would refuse a smart meter currently as they are all SMETS1. When the SMETS2 rollout begins you can count me in. It'll be nice to get accurate billing without monthly read submissions.

    If a supplier writes to you and tells you you need a new meter..you need a new meter ! does nt matter what flavour it is, you are obliged to have this meter installed.Take your pick then from a £5 quid crapola little Landys and Gyr meter or a smart meter which at least will do a bit of work for you.A meter fitter will be making TWO trips to your house whatever you decide .The SMET2 s could be, and probably will be up to 10 years before it makes it to your house so at least you can have a fit and forget meter that is doing a bit of work for you getting the bills 100% spot on if you stick to the same suppliers best tariffs .Very few of these meters go wrong but thousands of the cheap L and G cheapos are always blowing every week.Thats why they cost a fiver and a smart meter costs £200 and it comes with a new gadget to play with for a few weeks.
    Smart meters will be made obligatory as they have in most of Europe, may as well get one and stop making a fuss over nothing

    The energy company reps also like to inform us of their supposed advantages but avoid posting any useful factual information about them because we obviously know more about them than they do, glibly referring us to their companies website propaganda.

    What we need is a smart meter reading supplier who gets the meter reading at, say, 9 am, then bills you by text or email and takes the exact money from your bank account before midnight the same day, every day, that way you will never be in debit or credit by more than one day.

    Then you could get a discount for paying daily instead of monthly.

    Daily payments would be more expensive as the supplier has to pay transaction fees for every bank transaction. Currently on Direct Debit, there is only 1 fee a month, not the 30 you advocate.

    So why can we not pay quarterly and get a bigger discount than monthly DD because there will only be 4 bank charges a year?

    After all that is how I first started to pay for my energy 50 odd years ago.
