Cheap, decent alarm for van

Can anyone recommend a decent simple alarm for my fathers Ford Escort van? I've not had an alarm fitted for years (lucky enough to buy cars with decent alarms already fitted), so am a bit out of touch.
Any recommendations greatly appreciated

If its to prevent it being stolen buy a mechanical lock instead.
It will be fairly easy to disable an alarm on an old Escort.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Cheap alarm, decent alarm.
Pick one.
Toad ai606 gets my vote for the latter category.0 -
Does that have a battery backup? No mention of it.
With something like an old Escort, where is there to hide it?
Although they claim "Absolutely no one can illegally start your car engine" with an Escort i bet i can in 3 minutes with a simple plug in loom.
My party trick, friends and co-workers locking their cars and come back to find it still locked but with the engine running.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

If you're asking that of me, regarding the ai606, then yes, it has a battery backup in the siren - it wouldn't meet Thatcham C1 without it; and they do mention it:
The Siren: Has the Highest siren pitch that money can buy and secondly, it has its own battery for back up.
If your car battery is unlawfully disconnected by someone lying under the car, the siren will automatically trigger.
Where is there to hide it? Same places as any other alarm - located in its metal security case, behind panels which can only be removed with tools, if installed to meet Thatcham C1.
Immobiliser can absolutely prevent starting, if properly installed. It would be quite tricky to come up with a 'simple plug-in loom' which can defeat two circuits of properly thought about immobilisation which don't rely on just chopping power to the starter relay or ignition circuit.0
